| episode_narrative | A storm system brought a little over an inch of rain to East Central Lower Michigan. With very cold and in places frozen ground, this water could not be readily absorbed. Combined with substantial snowmelt, the rain produced flooding in Gladwin, Arenac, and Iosco Counties. The Tobacco River in Beaverton exceeded flood stage of 12 feet late in the evening of the 5th, crested at 12.6 feet at 9 am on the 6th, and fell back below flood stage at 4 pm. Several other rivers and streams flooded, including the Pine River. Ice jams contributed to flood problems on many rivers. Numerous roads were damaged by high water, with several completely washed out.. Southern Gladwin County clearly had the worst of it, with over a dozen roads closed due to high water or flood damage. Water did inundate a few homes in the area, but damage to private property was neither widespread nor severe. |
