| episode_narrative | A squall line developed ahead of a cold front which moved southeast across Lake Michigan and Michigan's Lower Peninsula during the afternoon and early evening hours of Tuesday, July 21st. A bow echo developed in this line and resulted in severe thunderstorm wind gusts across much of southwest and south central Lower Michigan. Wind gusts of 60 to 80 mph occurred across portions of Allegan, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Barry, Eaton, Calhoun, Ionia, and Jackson Counties. Some minor structural damage to homes and businesses was reported, mainly a result of downed trees and power lines. No injuries were reported. The most significant damage occurred across Calhoun County, south and east of Battle Creek. Power outages across southwest and south central Lower Michigan peaked at approximately 110,000. Statewide, some 400,000 people lost power, most of which occurred in the Detroit metropolitan area. |
