episode_narrativeThunderstorms developed across the lower deserts to the southeast of Phoenix during the late afternoon and early evening hours on July 22nd, and they produced strong and gusty outflow winds in excess of 40 mph. The strong winds stirred up significant amounts of dust and led to the formation of a dust storm that affected the Casa Grande area as well southeast and east valley communities such as Queen Creek. According to trained spotters and AWOS data, the dust storm lowered visibilities to near zero miles at times. The dust storm occurred roughly between 2000MST and 2100MST. A Dust Storm Warning was issued and in effect at the time of the reports. No accidents or injuries were reported.
event_narrativeThunderstorms developed to the southeast of Phoenix during late afternoon and evening hours, and they produced gusty outflow winds in excess of 40 mph. The strong winds stirred up significant amounts of dust and produced a dust storm that moved into the southeast valley communities during the early evening hours. According to a trained spotter located about two miles northeast of Queen Creek, a dust storm lowered visibility below 1/4 mile at 1958MST. Additionally, at 2005MST the official AWOS weather station at the Phoenix Mesa-Gateway airport measured a visibility of 1/8 of a mile in a dust storm. A Dust Storm Warning was issued just minutes before the reports. No accidents were reported due to the extremely restricted visibility.
