| episode_narrative | The combination of strong outflow winds from a weakening line of thunderstorms along with the severe drought conditions brought a dust storm to areas in and just west of the James River Valley. Wind gusts from 60 to 80 mph stirred up large amounts of dust bringing the visibility down to an eighth of mile or less at times during the evening hours. Hundreds of acres of soybeans were damaged by the winds and dust and had to be replanted. The high winds caused some downed power lines at Richmond Lake which caused some trees to start on fire. There were also several traffic accidents along with some vehicles ending up in the ditch due to the poor visibility. Some of the more notable accidents all occurred on Highway 14. There was a rear end collision that occurred with no injuries. The second accident was a rear end trailer that tipped over due to the high winds. The third accident was a head on collision in Hyde county with some injuries occurring. |
