episode_narrativeA cold front moved through Northwest Kansas during the morning. Strong winds behind the initial frontal passage caused blowing dust to develop as the front moved through, but visibilities remained above a mile over most of the area. Behind the front stronger winds around 60 MPH developed creating even more blowing dust. The worst visibilities reported were over Rawlins, Decatur, and Sheridan counties where the blowing dust dropped visibilities to near zero for much of the morning through the early afternoon. Satellite imagery showed the dust plumes originating over Hitchcock county Nebraska and Rawlins county. Due to the near zero visibility, there were sections of state highway that were closed.
event_narrativeNear zero visibility reported from north of Oberlin to the Nebraska state line on U.S. Highway 83.
