| event_narrative | Thunderstorms developed over the south central Arizona deserts, including the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, during the early evening hours on September 9th. The storms generated gusty outflow winds in excess of 40 mph which stirred up signficant amounts of dust and created dust storm conditions. Due to the low visibility in dense blowing dust, a Dust Storm Warning was issued for the greater Phoenix area from 640 pm until 8 pm. At 7 pm, a trained weather spotter 7 miles southwest of the town of Wittmann reported a dust storm; he indicated that visibility dropped to 50 yards in dense blowing dust. Fortunately no significant accidents or injuries were reported due to the dust storm conditions. |
