| episode_narrative | Thunderstorms developed to the south and southwest of the greater Phoenix area during the afternoon hours on July 23rd. The storms produced gusty outflow winds in excess of 50 mph which moved to the north and picked up considerable dust, creating dust storm conditions. The dust storm moved into the greater Phoenix area, primarily affecting the central and western valley communities. The dense blowing dust led to the issuance of a dust storm warning and also created very hazardous driving conditions during the evening rush hour. |

The storms produced gusty outflow winds in excess of 30 mph which moved north and picked up copious amounts of dust. A dust storm was generated which moved into the greater Phoenix area and primarily affected the central and western valley communities. At 405 pm, a trained spotter reported visibility below 100 yards in a dust storm at 51st Avenue and Dobbins. At 438 pm a trained spotter in downtown Phoenix at 7th Street and Jefferson reported near zero visibility in dense blowing dust. Additionally, at 445 pm another spotter near Papago Park reported visibility below one quarter mile in blowing dust at 52nd Street and McDowell Road. The reports helped trigger a dust storm warning for the greater Phoenix area. The dense blowing dust created very hazardous driving conditions during the evening rush hour. Fortunately, no significant accidents or injuries were reported. |
