episode_narrativeStrong winds occurred between May 1 to May 5, as a low pressure system approached Central California from the Pacific Northwest. Peak wind gusts during this strong wind event included northwest at 61 mph at Jawbone RAWS site at 1814 PDT on the 1st, 70 mph at the Class 3-16C RAWS site 10 miles west north-west of Inyokern at 2232 PDT on the 2nd, and northwest at 67 mph at Indian Wells Cyn RAWS site at 2013 PDT on the 4th. ||Newspaper reports indicated a dust storm occurred in the Mojave area of the Kern County Desert during the afternoon of Friday, May 4. Local visibilities fell to near zero at times between about 1400 and 1700 PDT, along portions of Highway 14 north of Mojave, and along Tehachapi-Willow Springs Road, where the California State Police were forced to close portions of these highways due to the dust storm.
