episode_narrativeAn upper trough was moving east of the Rockies with deep, dry air moving into southwest New Mexico behind it. There was some deeper moisture up to the Rio Grande Valley with an area of convergence west of Deming. Storms developed along this area of convergence which produced severe wind gusts and in turn a dust storm that moved along Interstate 10 in Luna county as well as around Las Cruces.
event_narrativeAn off-duty NWS Employee reported visibilities less than a tenth of a mile near the Grant/Luna county line. The Deming ASOS reported under a quarter mile visibility as well.
