July 1999 was the warmest July on record at the marina within Atlantic City with a monthly mean temperature of 78.6 degrees. The previous record was 78.1 degrees set in 1993. July 1999 was the second warmest July on record at the Atlantic City International Airport with a monthly mean temperature of 78.6 degrees. The warmth was not confined to urban areas. For the state of New Jersey as a whole, the July 1999 monthly mean temperature of 76.9 degrees was the 5th warmest July on record dating back to 1895. July 1999 was also extremely dry. The state average rainfall total of 1.80 inches was the 7th driest July on record and the driest July since 1957. Rainfall totals on a county weighted average for the month ranged from 0.5 inches in Somerset and Morris Counties to 2.3 inches in Cumberland County. Every county from Mercer and Middlesex Counties northward had an inch or less of total rainfall for the month. The monthly rainfall totals of 1.70 inches at the Atlantic City International Airport and 1.20 inches at the Marina within Atlantic City were the 6th and 9th driest July on record respectively. The nearby Lehigh Valley International Airport had their driest July on record ever. |
