episode_narrativeThe drought eased somewhat during August with 2 to 4 inches of rain. Also, temperatures were not as hot as those endured during July. However, the drought still lingered by month's end.A federal drought disaster was declared by President Clinton on the 2nd. Mandatory water conversation continued on many small public service districts. Department of Highways and National Guard water tankers were stationed in several communities to supplement residential supply. Farmers were supplied with 300 gallon tanks to haul water to livestock.Tygart Lake had fallen over 20 feet below normal pool toward the end of the month. Summersville Lake was 10 feet lower than usual.
