| episode_narrative | Dry conditions that began in July of 1998, subsided for several months during the later part of 1998 and the first part of 1999, returned in June of 1999. June rainfall amounts were mainly about half of what normally falls. In many areas, crops were damaged or destroyed. Water levels in creeks, streams, and rivers were very low. Carvins Cove reservoir, the water supply for Roanoke City, was near a record low of 23 feet below capacity near the end of the month. Portions of the upper James and upper Roanoke river basins reached new record low flow levels for the month of June. Some creeks and wells temporarily dried up. |
