episode_narrativeUnseasonably dry weather continued throughout the month of June across New Jersey. Aside from Essex, Cumberland and Atlantic Counties, all the other counties on a county weighted average had less than half of their normal monthly precipitation. The state average rainfall total of 1.92 inches was the 10th driest June on record dating back to 1895. The driest counties were Hunterdon, Somerset and Mercer, where either .8 or .9 of an inch of rain fell all month and was about 22 percent of normal monthly rainfall. The unseasonably dry weather forced a fire ban at all campgrounds. The ongoing dry weather will prevent many farming areas from having a second cutting of hay. Yields on other crops are expected to be affected if no rain is received soon including the soybean crop. Farmers were forced to irrigate their crops. Pumpkins and sweet corn in Northern New Jersey were suffering because farms in the northern part of the state rely heavily on precipitation and not irrigation.
