| episode_narrative | Unusually hot and dry weather persisted across much of southeast Louisiana during June. Average temperature departures were 3 to 4 degrees above normal across the region. Two daily maximum temperature records were set at New Orleans International Airport and four were set at New Orleans Audubon Park. Precipitation was below normal across southeast Louisiana, particularly in the area from the Baton Rouge area to parishes north of Lake Pontchartrain, where average monthly rainfall for the region was 1.84 inches compared to the normal of 4.57 inches. This region of southeast Louisiana was rated by the Palmer Drought Index as being in a severe drought by the beginning of July. The region south of Lake Pontchartrain and near the coast was rated as being in a mild drought. Damage estimates for crops will be described in later issuance of Storm Data at the end of the growing season. |
