episode_narrativeDrought conditions continued in Southwest Texas and Southeast New Mexico. The Midland International Airport reported 0.30 inches of precipitation for June, which is 1.25 inches below normal. The total for the April-June period was a bleak 0.32 inch versus the climate average of 4.36 inches or about 7% of normal the driest April-June period on record. The first six months of the year were the second driest on record at 1.48" as compared to the driest January-June period of 1.31 inches in 1933. June 1998 was the 7th driest June on record dating back to 1930. Adding to the dryness was the fact that the high temperature averaged 100.2 degrees for the month and top readings for the month were 111 degrees on both the 3rd and the 27th.Agricultural losses will be great but will not be included until the end of the drought or the end of the harvest when totals are calculated.
