| episode_narrative | June 1997 was drier than normal throughout New Jersey. On a county weighted average, deficits averaged between 1.5 and 2 inches in most counties. Deficits though were within an inch of normal in Atlantic, Cape May, Mercer, Middlesex and Ocean Counties. The largest deficits were in southwest New Jersey where less than half of the normal rainfall fell with only 40 percent of normal precipitation in Salem and Cumberland Counties. Half of the rain fell during the first three days of the month and coupled with the hot weather at the end of the month, the lack of rain started to stress growing areas. Some representative monthly rainfall totals included 2.26 inches in Flemington (Hunterdon County), 1.87 inches in Long Branch (Monmouth County), 1.83 inches in South Harrison (Gloucester County), 1.66 inches in Toms River (Ocean County), 1.34 inches in Hainesville (Sussex County), 1.24 inches in Mount Holly (Burlington County), 1.16 inches in Hammonton (Atlantic County) and 0.94 inches in MIllville (Cumberland County). |
