| event_narrative | Although beneficial rains fell during the month of October across much of the Valley, it was not enough to break the ongoing drought. The drought continues to plague much of deep south Texas. Both mandatory and voluntary conservation water restrictions remain in effect. Sub soil moisture remains very dry. Many stock ponds have dried. Thus far, both Zapata and Starr counties have received presidential declarations from the drought. Please refer to the August Storm Data report for more information.In fact, the average depature from normal for deep south Texas was around 8.3 inches . La Joya reported 11.89 inches below normal, McCook measured 10.74 inches below normal, Rio Grande City was 8.19 inches below normal, Brownsville reported 8.88 inches below normal, McAllen measured 7.52 inches below normal, and Harlingen was 5.68 inches below normal.The pool elevation for Falcon Lake was 253.59 feet which is 47.61 below normal elevation of 301.20 feet. |
