| event_narrative | August 2000 was the driest month of record in Shreveport and the surrounding area where only a trace of rainfall was recorded resulting in numerous failed crops. Records began in 1871. In addition to being dry, August also tied the third warmest of record with an average temperature of 86.9 degrees. Sixteen days of triple digit high temperatures were recorded with a high of 109 degrees on the 31st. This was 1 degree from the highest ever recorded for any month. The 100 degree temperature was set on August 8, 1909. |
