Event narrativeevent_narrativeFreezing temperatures affected most of southwest and interior South Florida on the morning of January 3rd. Lowest official temperatures in Inland Collier County were 29 degrees in Immokalee and 32 degrees in Ochopee. Unofficial low temperatures at some farms near and east of Immokalee were as low as 27 degrees. ||Damage to crops was noted as limited, and mostly to tomatoes and peppers. Estimated losses in most farms was estimated at 10 to 20 percent, with as much as 40 percent estimated at one farm near the Collier/Hendry County line. Much of the damage was due to the strong winds which accompanied the freezing temperatures overnight.
