| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | A strong cold front moved across northern Illinois during the afternoon hours of January 29th. Thunderstorms developed ahead of this front with temperatures in the 40s and lower 50s. Temperatures quickly dropped into the teens behind the front. During the evening hours, an area of heavy snow developed across east central and northeast Illinois. This heavy snow combined with winds gusting to 35 mph to cause near blizzard conditions with numerous locations reporting visibility less than a quarter mile. Snowfall amounts were generally between 1 and 3 inches but were difficult to measure due to the strong winds. Wind chills ranged from 15 below to 25 below zero for most of the night. |
| Event narrativeevent_narrative | Wind chill values dropped to 30 below zero during the late evening of January 29th. |
