| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | Unseasonably cold weather settled across eastern Iowa and northern Illinois on the early morning hours of 26 April. Morning low temperatures were in the upper 20s with Lowden, Iowa and Morrison, Illinois both reporting 26 degrees. Mt. Carroll, Illinois recorded 22 degrees. These cold temperatures met or exceeded the median or 10 percent probability of reaching temperatures of such magnitude, and in some cases, beat the possible date of occurrance by 7 to 10 days. Abnormally warm weather two weeks prior to this event resulted in many trees leafing out. There was probable damage done to fruit orchards or farms but the extent is unknown. The damage is likely less than the freeze that took place in early May of 2005. |
