Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeThe core of a deep-layer cold air mass moved through eastern Canada on Oct 20 and 21. A surface ridge of high pressure extended from the center of an anticyclone over the Great Lakes into western New England. A clear sky allowed optimal overnight cooling, and temperatures fell to freezing or below freezing in much of southern Vermont, ending the growing season.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeOn October 21, a freeze officially ended the growing season in Bennington County as the temperature dropped to 28 degrees at Sunderland, 31 degrees at the airport in Bennington, and 32 degrees at Peru.
