Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA killing freeze affected all of western Kentucky, effectively ending the growing season. Low temperatures were in the lower to mid 20's. Specific observed low temperatures included 22 degrees at Providence in Webster County, 23 degrees at the Paducah NWS office, 24 degrees at Madisonville, 25 degrees at Hopkinsville, Owensboro, and Marion, and 27 degrees at Mayfield and Murray. A surface high pressure ridge moved east across the Mid-Mississippi and Lower Ohio Valleys during the early morning hours. This high provided light winds and clear skies, setting the stage for a hard freeze.
