| Event narrativeevent_narrative | A large area of Canadian high pressure built eastward from the Great Lakes to New York and adjacent western New England on the morning of October 16. With a clear sky and no wind, strong radiational cooling took place, which allowed temperatures to dip to, or in many cases, well below freezing in northwest Connecticut for the first time since last May, thus ending the growing season. Temperatures in Litchfield County ranged from about 26 to 28 degrees. Despite the freeze, no crop damage was reported to the National Weather Service as a result of this freeze. |
