Event narrativeevent_narrativeA large area of Canadian high pressure built eastward from the Great Lakes to New York and adjacent western New England on the morning of October 16. With a clear sky and no wind, strong radiational cooling took place, which allowed temperatures to dip to well below freezing across the Berkshires for the first time since last May. Temperatures ranged from about 24 to 28 degrees in Berkshire County and thus ended the growing season. Despite the freeze, no crop damage was reported to the National Weather Service.
