Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA large Canadian high pressure slipped south across eastern New York and adjacent western New England during the pre-dawn hours of May 20. The combination of a clear sky and light wind allowed for excellent radiational cooling across the entire area. By sunrise, temperatures had dipped below 32 degrees, thereby producing a widespread freeze. The 29 degrees at Albany International Airport established a new record low for the date. Many outlying spots were even colder, with readings as cold as the lower 20s. Despite the freeze, no damage to crops or plants was reported to the National Weather Service.
