Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeWind chill temperatures to 72 degrees below zero were reported at Selawik. Sufficiently cold surface temperatures combined with winds that increased to over 15 mph resulted in warning criteria being met. The winds sufficient enough to create the extreme wind chills developed as a low over the northern Bering Sea moved northeastward increasing the pressure gradient between it, and high pressure over mainland Alaska.
