Weather forecast office sourcewfo_sourceOFFICIAL NWS OBS.
Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeHigh pressure over the Mid Atlantic region created calm winds and clear skies during the early morning hours of the 19th. These conditions in combination with a chilly airmass in place allowed temperatures to plummet into the mid 20s to lower 30s between 3 and 7 AM EDT. This resulted in a hard freeze which unfortunately was preceded by unseasonably warm weather which had caused many plants to bloom early. Homeowners and nurseries with outdoor vegetation reported losses.
