| episode_narrative | This event was a continuation of the winter storm which impacted eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa Saturday 12/16/00. Even though northwest winds decreased to 20 to 35 mph Saturday night allowing the blowing and drifting snow to subside, dangerously cold wind chills of 35 to 50 below zero continued into the early morning hours of Sunday 12/17/00. Temperatures during this time period dropped to zero to 5 below. The wind decreased to 10 to 20 mph after 300 am on the 17th, and even though wind chill values remained cold, they moderated somewhat from the extreme values recorded earlier. |
