Although wind speeds decreased to less than 10 mph Monday afternoon, the wind shifted to the south ahead of another weather system and began to gust during the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 24th. There were a few hours during the afternoon and evening of Monday, December 23rd when wind chill values were only averaging between 15 to 25 below and temperatures held in the -5 to -15 below range. The coldest wind chill values occurred during the early morning hours of Monday, December 23rd where a few locations in the headwaters of the Minnesota River Valley dropped to near -45 degrees. |
