| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | A cold post-frontal airmass was well established across the Texas Panhandle, and allowed temperatures to drop below freezing from the evening hours of the 23rd through the morning hours of the 24th. The subfreezing temperatures threatened sensitive vegetation during the early growing season. Morning lows on the 24th ranged from 10 degrees at Bravo (Dallam County) to 28 degrees at Boys Ranch (Oldham County). Temperatures quickly warmed above freezing by 9:45 AM CST on the 24th.| |Several climatological records were set at Amarillo (Potter and Randall County) during this period of freezing temperatures. On the 23rd, a new record low temperature of 25 degrees was set, and broke the old record low of 30 set in 1909. On the 24th, a new record low temperature of 20 degrees, and broke the old record low of 32 degrees set in 1958. Also the new record low for the 24th broke the old record for the coldest temperature this late in the season which was 23 degrees set on April 30th, 1907. |
