Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA cold front pushed across the Rio Grande Valley and Deep South Texas on January 12th bringing chilly overnight temperatures on the 13th to the northern counties of the CWA. Readings fell well below freezing across much of the King Ranch (Brooks/Kenedy) where winds calmed. Colder pockets of the Rio Grande Plains and Brush Country (Zapata/Jim Hogg/Starr) also fell to or below freezing (32F) for several hours.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeTemperatures fell below degrees between 6:15 AM and 8:15 AM across Kenedy before rising above freezing after 8:15 AM. A COOP site in Sarita reported a low of 28 degrees and a COOP site in Armstrong reported a low of 27 degrees. Proxy observations from the Lower Rio Grande NWR near San Manuel (northeast Hidalgo, around 5 miles southwest of the Kenedy County line) suggest around 5 hours of freezing temperatures on the King Ranch.
