Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeVery light winds, no cloud cover, and a high pressure system over the Tennessee Valley produced an optimal situation for strong radiational cooling. With cold and dry air in place over the area behind a departed cold front, temperatures dropped below freezing for several hours across northern Alabama as a result. Temperatures ranged from 24 or 25 degrees in the coldest locations to around 31 degrees in other locations.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeCountywide temperatures dropped to below freezing for more than 5 hours.|Some of the lows reached were: Athens - 30, Belle Mina - 25, Pryor Field - 29, and Sardis Springs - 26.
