Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeVery light winds, no cloud cover, and a high pressure system over the Tennessee Valley produced an optimal situation for strong radiational cooling. With cold and dry air in place over the area behind a departed cold front, temperatures dropped below freezing for several hours across southern middle Tennessee as a result. Temperatures ranged from 24 or 25 degrees in the coldest locations to around 31 degrees in other locations.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeCountywide temperatures dropped to or below 32 degrees for more than 3 hours. Some low temperatures recorded were as follows: Sewanne - 31 and Winchester Airport - 25.
