Weather forecast office sourcewfo_sourceCOOP Observer
Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeVery light winds, no cloud cover, and a high pressure system over the Tennessee Valley produced an optimal situation for strong radiational cooling. With cold and dry air in place over the area behind a departed cold front, temperatures dropped below freezing for several hours across northern Alabama as a result. Temperatures ranged from 24 or 25 degrees in the coldest locations to around 31 degrees in other locations.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeCountywide temperatures dropped to or below 32 degrees for at least 3 hours. Temperatures at the Union Grove site dropped to 31 degrees, while the site at Guntersville dropped to 32 degrees.
