Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA dangerous rip current event unfolded along the mid-Atlantic coast on September 18. Tropical Storm Odette was moving further out to sea as it began to transition to an extratropical cyclone. However, swells associated with the storm continued to impact the coast with high seas and dangerous rip currents. Combined with most beaches no longer being guarded due to the time of year, but with warm and mostly sunny weather conditions present, a number of swimmers came into distress along the New Jersey coastline. First responders rescued over a dozen swimmers from the surf over the course of the day, and sadly one fatality occurred in Ocean County, New Jersey.
Event narrativeevent_narrativeA 54 year old man was pulled from the surf around 12:30 local time and was pronounced dead soon after at a local hospital. Over a dozen other swimmers were rescued in Ocean County alone.
