Event narrativeevent_narrativeA 43-year-old Tennessee man swimming in the ocean was caught in a rip current and drowned. The incident occurred near the intersection of State Road A1A and Rockefeller Drive in Ormond Beach, in an area of the beach where lifeguards were not staffed. A bystander alerted Volusia County Beach Rescue officials who responded and pulled the man from the water. First responders performed CPR, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Volusia County Beach Rescue reported there were 56 rescues on Sunday October 13, with several near-drowning victims who received medical attention and survived.
