episode_narrativePersistent and strong west to northwest winds caused blowout tide conditions to occur at times of low tide in Delaware Bay and along the ocean during both low tides on the 11th. The lowest tides occurred with the late afternoon and early evening low tide on the 11th. The lowest tide at Reedy Island (New Castle County) was -2.06 feet below mean lower low water. In Sussex County, the lowest tide at Breakwater Harbor was -1.96 feet below mean lower low water and the lowest tide at the Indian River Inlet was -2.42 feet below mean lower low water. Blowout tides begin at -1.80 feet below mean lower low water. The persistent west to northwest winds were caused by the pressure gradient (difference) between a high pressure system that was moving east from the Northern Plains and Great Lakes and an intense low pressure system over the Canadian Maritimes.
