| Event narrativeevent_narrative | A Kill Devil Hills man died in rough surf stirred up by an offshore storm. The man was reported missing around 12:15 p.m. EDT, then was spotted in the water near Fourth Street about 15 minutes later. The nearshore current was strong and moved the man quickly to the south, according to a town news release. Kill Devil Hills lifeguard crews at Second Street entered the water to help, and the unresponsive man was pulled from the ocean. CPR was immediately initiated and maintained by lifeguards, with the assistance of Kill Devil Hills Fire Department personnel. The man was transported by Dare County EMS to The Outer Banks Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. |
