episode_narrativeA strong pressure gradient between high pressure over the Mid-Atlantic states and Tropical Storm Noel over Hispaniola and eastern Cuba caused a prolonged period of strong east winds over Southeast Florida and the adjacent waters. As Noel moved north across the western Bahamas, the strong winds continued across southeast Florida. The event caused severe beach erosion, coastal flooding, and minor wind damage. The event began in the last week of October.
event_narrativeHigh surf continued to impact the Broward County as Tropical Storm Noel moved east and northeast of the region, with water levels rising sufficiently enough to cause moderate to isolated pockets of severe beach erosion and coastal flooding. Areas most affected by the beach erosion were Fort Lauderdale Beach and Hollywood Beach. A section of Highway A1A from Sunrise Boulevard to NE 21 Street in Fort Lauderdale Beach was closed on November 3 and 4 as a result of water washing over the roadway. ||Maximum storm tide observed at Virginia Key NOS tide gauge was 3.5 feet just before midnight on November 1, and the maximum surge height at that time was 1.08 feet. No tide measurements are available from Broward County, but storm tide is estimated to have been as high as 1-2 feet over portions of Broward County.
