Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA swell from a powerful low far northwest of the Aloha State generated surf of 15 to 25 feet along the north-facing shores of all the islands except Lanai; 10 to 20 feet along the west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, and Maui; and 8 to 12 feet along the west-facing shores of the Big Island. In the morning hours in the Hilo area on the Big Island on the 28th, the surf closed Kalanianaole Avenue between Kioea and Kolea Streets as water poured over the roadway.||A large wave near Kaena Point on Oahu swept three men into the water on the 27th, where one died and the others were injured. On Kauai on the same day, a 33-foot sailing vessel ran aground in the high surf after its motor failed. The vessel beached on the west side of Hanalei Bay at Waipa. The boat's owner injured himself trying to leave the boat. The cost of any damages was not available.
