| episode_narrative | On the 11th a man died in strong currents while snorkeling inside the reef near the Shark's Hole, which isnorth of Tanguisson Beach. The 55 year old Rand R. Rihle of California was snorkeling with a friend when strong currents swept them outside the reef. Rihle's friend made it to shore and called rescue workers, who arrived at 1245. A helicopter spotted Rihle's body floating 200 yards off the reef at 1430. He was pronounced dead at Guam Memorial Hospital at 1532.Unrelated weather even that occurred across the Guam Area of Responsibility. On the 6th at 1330 Local Guam time a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert was issued by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center for a circulation north of Yap near 10.2N 134.7E. This circulation developed in Tropical Depression 03W later in the day. Tropical Depression 03W was located near 10.7N 133.2E at 1900 local time. The tropical depression moved west of the Guam Area of Responsibility (130E) by the early morning of the 9th. It eventually became Tropical Storm Jacob. It's movement kept it out over the open ocean and no reports of damage was received.On the 22nd Tropical Depression 04W formed in the monsoon trough over Mindanao in the Philippines. It became Tropical Storm Kate on the afternoon of the 23rd. It was still west of the Guam Area of Responsibility at this time. The storm's northeast motion eventually caused it to enter into Guam's areaon the morning of the 24th while it was near 16.2N 130.3E. It remained in Guam' Area of Responsibility until the morning of the 27th. It exited the Guam area near 21.0N 135.0E. Other than causing some ocean swells across the Marianas Islands, no reports of damage was received. |
