episode_narrativeA prolonged high surf and beach erosion event took place from the 10th through the 12th of September. A ridge of high pressure at the surface brought brisk northeast winds to the coastal waters. This combined with high swells from distant hurricane Florence in the Atlantic to produce significant high surf and beach erosion across a large section of the southeast South Carolina coast. Significant erosion took place at the far northern end of Wild Dunes resort on the Isle of Palms where some condominiums and homes had foundations, power lines, and sewer lines exposed. Significant erosion and washover was also reported down on Edisto Island and on Folly beach.
