| Episode narrativeepisode_narrative | On December 27, a low pressure system west of Emmonak at 995 millibars was moving northwest toward Saint Lawrence Island and deepening. A cold front was moving east-northeast toward the Yukon-Kuskokwim delta. A strong pressure gradient was noted between the trough, which extended into the Gulf of Alaska, and a 1055 millibar high sitting over the northern Yukon territory of Canada. |

However, after review, the following factors lead us to conclude the damage was caused from rough surf (not storm surge):||The mean wind direction and magnitude were from the east southeast peaking around 38 knots measured at Togiak on December 27, around 9 pm AKST / 6 UTC. The observed tide data at Clark's Point remained below the Maximum Astronomical Tide. The swell direction was parallel to the coast. |
