| episode_narrative | A strong high pressure system built into New England on the 25th and 26th. The northeast to east flow around the high and a developing low pressure system well east of Cape Hatteras produced rough surf and rip currents along the New Jersey shore, particularly in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Several people suffered shoulder, eye and knee injuries. In Monmouth County, a person nearly drowned while fishing along the shore on the 26th. A total bathing ban was in effect in Allenhurst, while yellow cautionary flags flew and partial bathing bans were in effect in other places such as Sea Girt. A 17 foot vessel capsized half a mile off of Shark River Inlet in 5 to 6 foot seas. In Belmar, a 42-foot sport fisher vessel carrying eight persons ran aground between the south jetty and a fishing pier around midnight EDT on the 26th. In Ocean County, several rescues and injuries occurred in Seaside Park. In Island Beach State Park, a 20-foot boat crashed into the park's north jetty the evening of the 25th. Two men were rescued from the water with just minor cuts and bruises, but their dog drowned. |
