Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeWindy conditions, heavy showers, and high surf from a trade wind swell were all part of the panoply of weather that affected the Hawaiian Islands in the middle of March. The strong winds toppled trees and power lines, and blew the roofs off several homes throughout the state. Heavy rain caused ponding and isolated debris flows on roadways, and small stream and drainage ditch flooding. The trade wind swell produced surf of 8 to 12 feet along the east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui, and the Big Island of Hawaii. No serious injuries were reported. The costs of damages across the island chain were not available.
