Episode narrativeepisode_narrativeA swell from a powerful low far northwest of Hawaii generated surf of 20 to 35 feet along the north- and west-facing shores of Niihau and Kauai, and the north-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai, and Maui; and 10 to 20 feet along the west-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai, and the Big Island of Hawaii. Officials on Kauai closed beaches for a time because of the high surf. Although lifeguards were busy making occasional rescues, giving out warnings, and taking preventive actions; there were no reports of significant injuries or property damage.
