episode_narrativeHurricane Gustav moved west-northwest through the northwest Caribbean Sea, crossing over western Cuba before continuing into the Gulf of Mexico. Tropical storm force winds spread over the Middle and Lower Florida Keys of Monroe County August 30 through 31, 2008. Storm total rainfall was very light, owing to the large distance between the Florida Keys and the core of the hurricane. There was minor tidal overwash from the Atlantic side of the Keys due to a minor storm surge and large seas in the Florida Straits.
event_narrativeMinor overwash occurred along the south shore of Key West in association with the passage of Hurricane Gustav. Storm tides peaked at 2.5 feet above sea level. Large waves resulted in inundation of several streets along the immediate shoreline. No property damage resulted from the coastal flooding.
