This dry period allow the snowpack to become thin and weak in areas. A pair of backcountry skiers accidentally triggered an avalanche near Lime Creek south of Edwards, CO.

The avalanche ran about 1000 feet and was 3 feet deep and 25 feet wide. Both skiers were caught with one fatality.
