This resulted in a hazardous and unstable snowpack in the Colorado backcountry. A pair of skiers unintentionally triggered a soft slab avalanche near Marvin's West, East Vail backcountry southeast of Vail.

But skiers were caught in the avalanche with one unable to escape the path resulting in a fatality.
